While in Istanbul we got to see the Aya sofia and the Blue mosque. It was my first time in a
mosque and these were old and beautful! The Aya sofia was origenally built as a church in like 530 something A.D. the converted into a mosque in 1453. Its huge and has lots of beautiful marble columbs and walls.I've heard that you could put the statue of Liberty standing in it and the tip of the torch would just graze the top of the dome.
Though not half as old, the Blue mosque
(or the Sultanahmet Mosque) was built in the 16oo's and was my favoite of the two.
Its still a place of worship but has a devider in the middle so that worshipers can pray on one side and tourists can look around in it
(that is if you take off your shoes and cover your head). The
Carpet inside the blue mosque was so lusious and comfy it felt like the carpet itself was 3 inches thick. I guess since no one wears their shoes in there it helps keep it looking and feeling so nice.
