I felt a little crazy waking up at 4am to hop in a quick shower before my purse and raincoat and heading to the airport. A few months ago my roommate and I were looking at flights and came across some very cheap flights to Istanbul. We called up another adventure-loving friend and planned a day trip. Saturday, after the hubbub of a short week at school, Thanksgiving, and beginning to plan Christmas activities we boarded the plane and flew up to Istanbul.
We arrived in the city a little after 8 and found some breakfast. We really had no agenda- which was great- so we set off doing kind whatever we wanted. We walked around, visited the old train station and watched the water and the ferries coming and going.
We met a friend of mine for lunch. it was so good to see this sweet girl after a year and a half! I wish it hadn't taken us so long to get together since we're living in the same country!
In the afternoon we took the ferry across to the European side and hunted for Chocolate Baklava. I've only had it in Istanbul and it's a little hard to find, but when you have all day to walk about you eventually find some. Later we walked along the water. The rain had stopped but the wind still made the water pretty choppy.
We walked about 4 miles to the next ferry stop and hopped on a ferry to take up to the other side where we got back on the airport bus and headed home.
All it all it was a great day, tiring but very fun!
