September 11, 2015
Today is a big day. Not just for the obvious reason of being September 11th but it's also my grandfather's 89th birthday and he's receiving his high school diploma. 71 years ago he was pulled out in February of his senior year when he was drafted for the army. He spent the next 22 months traveling from base to base, fort to fort until WWII was over.
One of the biggest reasons I'm proud of him is because he never let this be an excuse. My generation loves to use hard time or flat out bad situations as excuses for why we're not where we should be. Baba never let this slow him down. When he finished with the army he continued into college then went to law school. He said they never asked for a diploma, just grades.
In the past 71 year he's done more than most high school graduates would dream of. There's plenty he could be bitter or angry about but instead he's grateful and thankful for the honor of finally receiving it.
Tonight as he walks out onto the football field he wont be the captain of his team looking to claim the winning toss, he will be receiving honor in the form of a piece of paper many of us take for granted. I'm so proud of him and wish that I could have been there to see it!
Congratulations!!!
